Russ J. Christy
RJ Christy was born in Clyde OH, his family was considered one of the early settlers of Sandusky County. He was an apprentice machinist in Sandusky OH.
In 1890 he moved to Fremont OH to start the Christy Knife Company. He invented and patented the serrated edge bread knife. He had 2 dozen patents that included safety razors, razor blades, surgical blades, and the most famous is the Christy Sliding Blade Pocket Knife that is still in production today in Fremont, OH.
Russ was active in local government, and served on City Council, was a trustee of Memorial Hospital, was president of Colonial Savings Bank, and on the committee that built the 1st water treatment plant in Fremont, OH. Russ retired in 1920 to New Smyrna Beach FL. Upon his retirement his son D. LaMar Christy SR became president of the Christy Company.
